Story Board

Time Line
This time line shows roughly how long each shot in my short film should take. This is usefull because it gives me an idea when filming when I should stop recording a shot, this will hep me to keep in the time frame and complete the brief without fault.

Brief Story Board
This is a brief story board of the main shots that will be in my film, the more detailed story board with all of the shots is below...

This is my story board for my 60 second film. It shows all of the camera angles and shots that i will need in my film and gives a brief description of what camera movements there are and the dialogue the actors will be saying.
The story board is important because it acts like a check list. You can use it to make sure that you have got every clip and angle you will need in order for the film to make sense.
A good story board has pictures that you are able to understand and descriptions of what is going to happen in the shot.
Information that will need to be added into a story board are-
  • Sound effects
  • Dialogue
  • Camera angles
  • Actors
  • Music
  • Pictures

60 Second Film Ideas

1st Idea
  1. Man walks into his house
  2. Throws his coat down
  3. Turns on his radio
  4. News say that North Korea have fired a nuke at England
  5. Man looks around to see there is no one around him
  6. Man has flash backs of- Meeting a girl, Dating the girl, Falling in love and Breaking up
  7. Close up on his face
  8. Man grabs his coat and runs out his door
2nd Idea
  1. Two guys arguing about something pointless
  2. Decide there is only one way to decide
  3. Go into two rooms and come out straight away, changed into sports clothes
  4. Go into their garden arena
  5. Rock, paper, scissors match, no one wins
  6. Thumb war, no one wins
  7. Staring contest
  8. One of them wins
  9. Decision is made
  10. Start another argument
I have chosen to do the second idea because i wanted to create a comic effect and that would be a lot easier and will have a greater effect in the second.
My film will be set in my back garden and living room.

I have decided to call my film Child's Play

Coming up with ideas quickly is good because it gives me a general idea of what i am going to do without wasting time even if somethings need to be changed.

Dynamic Visual Storytelling

  • Focus on what you want the audience to see
  • Get rid of anything off putting
  • No continuity errors
  • If you're getting someones reaction to something get their whole face
This will help me when i am filming because it will make me make sure that i do not do anything that is going to be off putting and useless in my film.

Notes on 60 second films

Human App
  • A lot of panning
  • Confusing at the beginning but less after the second time
  • Random angled shot ruins the effect

Custody
  • Good hallway tracking shot, but it should last a bit longer
  • Tense music
  • Can see him squeese past the camera in the hallway
  • Some of the shots are too long

Rattle
  • First person view/ point of view
  • About someone going through their life
  • The baby rattle is a significant part of the story

Proposal
  • Bathos: Undermining the meaning at the end/ Anti-climax
  • Some shaky shots
  • Long shot across the field was nice

The Burger
  • Good angles
  • Pull focusing
  • Music worked really well
  • Bathos

Anticipation
  • Of a guy picturing everything that can go wrong with proposing
  • Camera angles at the beginning  and end are really good

Control
  • Some shots are out of focus
  • Boy gets accepted by something but the the wind takes it away
  • Story line is pretty confusing
Reviewing other peoples sixty second films has given me an idea of how shot a film i am going to have to make. Its given me a few ideas on how to angle some shots such as close ups to make my film seem more dramatic. Also two people are talking over the shoulder when someone finishes a sentence and it switches to the other person it looks to jumpy, so i am going to find a way to make it look more smooth.
